We're running a special fund drive to raise funds to sponsor both Big Learning KID classes at Highland Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD under the Montgomery County Public School's Linkages to Learning program.

What is the Linkages to Learning Program?
Linkages to Learning assists families and students with services to help children in school, at home, and in the community. Services include mental health services, social services, and educational support.

What's special about Highland Elementary School?
Highland Elementary School has a poverty rate of 82 percent, and a few years ago was not meeting state requirements for student progress. It is now ranked among the top 4% of elementary schools in the U.S. Its Linkages to Learning program has been a part of its remarkable turnaround, which was highlighted in the fall of 2009 when the school won a National Blue Ribbon Award. Mr. Ray Myrtle, Highland's principal, was recently awarded the Terrel H. Bell Leadership Award for Outstanding School Leadership. He says that Big Learning "sounds very promising. We are looking forward to working with this group." Jessica Tierney, site Site Coordinator for Linkages for Learning, says "Kensington Wheaton Youth Services' Linkages to Learning at Highland Elementary is looking forward to having this opportunity made available for the students here at Highland. It should be a great learning experience for a wonderful group of children."

How much money is needed?
Not a huge amount; Big Learning programs are designed to be very affordable. By raising $850, Big Learning will be able to fully fund the Toymaking after-school classes for 15 students at Highland. By raising $1,700, the Highland students will be able to take both Toymaking and Building Big and Small. You can fully fund all eight sessions of one of the classes for one student by donating just $57, or four sessions for $29. Any amount you can afford will help.

Where will my donation go?
100% of your tax-deductible donation will go directly toward buying the project materials, and training and paying teachers that will enable Highland students to enjoy the benefits of Big Learning KID. After the classes have been taught, we'll send a summary of the actual expenditures to all donors, so you can see exactly where your donation went.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Big Learning is a IRS-approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so your donation is deductible to the full extent of the law.

What if more money is raised than needed for Highland?
Any extra funds will be used to support Big Learning's mission of promoting school and life success through hands-on, real-world learning experiences for children and families.

How do I donate?
It's easy to donate via our PayPal page, whether you have a PayPal account or not. It's safe. PayPal (an eBay company) is the world's most trusted online payment systems, and none of your financial information is shared with others (not even with us).
